The Baseball Archive first appeared on the web in July of 1995, making it the oldest and longest-running baseball website still in existence. I founded the website to create a repository for baseball stats and historical information, and that work eventually led to my serving as an editor for Total Baseball: The Official Encyclopedia of Major League Baseball and other well-respected sports reference books. As we moved into the 21st century, other sites sprung up and surpassed anything I could have imagined. I stopped updating much of my historical content in the early 2000s, but I’ve decided to keep it here, in case those sites disappear.
I do remain committed to making raw data available, and I’ve continued to make annual updates to the Lahman Database — a free relational database of individual and team statistics that covers the game back to 1871. A link to versions of that database is below.
I also encourage you to visit and support my efforts at OpenSourceSports.com, a repository for free databases from sports other than baseball.
