Now that the Hall of Fame has announced it’s 2013 inductees — a class of zero — we have the last piece of information needed to close the book on the 2012 season. The updated version of my baseball database is now available for download, with complete statistics for teams and players all the way back to 1871.
This year’s version includes some cleanup of the biographical data, including a number of fixes for 19th century players whose true identities were recently uncovered by SABR researchers. It also includes a greatly expanded list of awards, including post-season all-star teams named by Baseball Magazine, and the annual awards given by The Sporting News.
If you’re a fan of the baseball database , I invite you to take a sneak preview of a new site I’m helping to launch later this month. OpenSourceSports.com will make similar databases available for other sports, including basketball, hockey, and football.
